Flashback 2018 – Did I Say That?

It’s about the future, not the fear.

‘Life’s unexpected turns and twists are what make being human interesting. Don’t fear the unknown…plan for the future the best you can, and then run forward into it, with open eyes, mind and heart.’ ~jg

I don’t remember sharing this thought two years ago, but according to Facebook I did. It sounds like something I’d say, so I guess I believe it. I’m also a little too lazy to actually scroll back to check.

Anyway, it seems even more appropriate now, as we’re trying to vaccinate our way out of The 2020 Pandemic. COVID-19 has proven to be an unexpected twist like no other, an abrupt turn of events that literally brought our lives to a standstill. You can’t plan for these things. Or live in fear of the next one. You can only hope to survive. To stay safe and healthy. So you can run forward into another new day after this one, with hope for the future, however unexpected it may become.

I hope everyone stays safe and well. Wear a mask, even if you’ve gotten the shots. Wash your hands. Be kind. ~jg

The Filibuster Must Go

I can see why Democrats are nervous about killing the Filibuster. Why? Because it will be gone FOREVER. Permanently. No take backs. Both parties might have to actually have to start governing, instead of just blaming the other for everything. Don’t believe me? Hear me out.

The Filibuster. Time to go away for good.

I can see why Democrats are nervous about killing the Filibuster. Why? Because it will be gone FOREVER. Permanently. No take backs. Both parties might have to actually have to start governing, instead of just blaming the other for everything. Don’t believe me? Hear me out.

Let’s say the Republicans come back to hold a majority in the Senate. I prefer that this never happens, of course. At least not THIS Republican party. Anyway, let’s say they do take back the Senate.

The LAST thing they would do is reinstate the Filibuster. Because if they DID, they would suddenly need 60 votes to pass anything instead of just 50. Why would they want to give the Democrats 10 votes? They wouldn’t.

Democrats should repeal the Filibuster immediately, and start governing. Expect the Republicans to do the same when they get a majority. Everybody needs to put on their big boy pants and learn to compromise.

Both parties need to start serving the people who elected them, not just the corporations and rich bastards who exploit the rest of us for their own gain. We’re tired of dying so the rich can get richer and have more power to fuck us in the ass with.

Growing weed indoors is bad for the climate.

Truth. Help save the planet. Grow weed outside. Grow hemp outside. We must use these crops and all the gifts they provide us, while at the same time pulling tons of CO2 out of the air and turning it into clothing, power, and a dank buzz 4 all!

Growing cannabis outdoors is much better for the planet.

Time to Legalize it NOW. Legal cannabis a huge part of the #GreenNewDeal, both economically and for the health of the planet!

The New Revolution

I sometimes talk about revolution in songs I write. Because I believe in revolution. I think revolution is essential to true growth and change. Revolution is the only way to bring about true change when roadblocks and obstacles to doing the right thing cannot be surmounted by other means.

Peaceful revolution is evolved revolution. The evolution of revolution. You know, for the digital post-modern age. Revolutions of course, can be violent as well, but we must not allow our primitive fears and emotional preservation to make that choice for us. Peaceful protest is always more effective than violent acts of revolt. Protests must never be allowed to become acts of terrorism.

Violence must always be a last resort; an act of self defense. If we expect the world to see us as legitimate leaders, they must see a new generation of Americans. Not the policies of our grandparents, that Trump used to spur division, fear and hate, but policies of a new era.

Policies that represent the 75% of America that are already woke to upholding the truths that we SAY we stand for. That each person is equal under law, and everyone gets an equal chance in America. That the rich, white minority are not more entitled to fair treatment and opportunity than the rest of low-to-middle income, multicultural America that we truly are.

We, Purple America, America of ALL races and creeds, cannot let a small number of outspoken, self-serving, partisan, faux-Christian assholes leave our national American dream of homogeny and harmony in tatters of tyranny and tragedy.

Evil only wins in darkness, when good people say and do nothing to expose it or stop it. Speak up. Do something. Rebuilding together, once we purge our government of those who stood against America. All of them.

2021 – Same Shit Different Year?

We thought 2020 was bad. Then, less than a week into 2021, the president incites a violent insurrection attempt on the nation’s Capitol. Holy fuck.

Impeachment 2 – The Second Scourge

STILL there are Republicans covering for him. Claiming that attempts to hold the criminal in Chief accountable will work against unity. Some say they aren’t necessary because Trump has learned his lesson. Meanwhile Trump says he did nothing wrong, and trying to Impeach him will make him…and more importantly, his violent thugs, angry. One of several threats… including ‘be careful what you wish for’.

Nine fucking days. Can we PLEASE get thru this in one piece? This is so fucking scary, as our Government is teetering on the edge of the

I’m not a fan of court packing. Joe Biden just said it (finally). I’ll say it too, because I’m not either. But I’m also not a fan of a polarized, political Supreme Court. Our very democracy depends on the wisdom of impartial, non-partisan justices to evaluate our laws against the template for our government: The Constitution. Nothing is more important.

Full disclosure time. Politically, I’m an apolitical Independent. Given a choice, I’ll stay out of politics. These days, I don’t feel like I have much choice. Life is scary, and I don’t trust ANYONE in power right now more than I trust the American people to #DemandBetter from their leaders. I’m voting for Joe, because the comparison isn’t even close.

Now…assuming the Republicans push through their latest SCOTUS nominee, pushing the Nation’s highest court ‘hard right’, I think court packing could be a solution for the next President. Importantly, I’m not suggesting that Democrats’ pack the court with “liberal” justices to balance out the damage done by the Republicans. No, that would just escalate things, and the makeup of the court will not improve. Instead, Dems need to take the Constitutional high ground, and assuming they gain control of the Senate and Presidency, Democrats need to work to make the court better for everyone, and make sure there’s no reason for the GOP to retaliate.

How you ask? Sounds impossible? Maybe.
But I have some ideas.

Let’s add two new justices. BUT, first, change the laws so that a 2/3 vote is required to confirm ALL lifetime judicial appointments, ensuring the 2 new justices, and all future appointments, will be bipartisan. As they should be. This is America. Courts MUST be impartial and independent.

Adding two new bipartisan judges will add a great deal of balance to the current court, which will still lean slightly conservative, while expanding the 9 seat bench to 11. By making it a law, it will require both houses of Congress and The President to change it…because it should NOT be left up to the Senate to just change the rules on these important appointments, as it is now.

The appointment process can still be changed in the future (hopefully for the better, and with bipartisan agreement) but the temptations..and ability…for one party to try to change the law just to gain a majority in the independent, apolitical and non-partisan high court will certainly shrink.

It’s time we all start thinking about the bigger picture. Beyond politics and parties. It’s time we remember that we can Make America Better, because going backwards is NEVER an actual option. MAGA is just the fear that things can’t get any better than they used to be, and we shouldn’t sell out our future
to fear.

I plan to vote for the future, because MAGA, like everything else that comes from Trump, is a lie.~jg

Footnote: Even if Biden doesn’t have a democratic majority in both houses of Congress, he could still plausibly sell this to some conservative Republicans who still believe in the sanctity of the Supreme Court. Getting it through as a bipartisan effort would be difficult, but Biden says he can work across the aisle…I guess we’ll see

If you think Trump is doing a good job managing the Coronavirus pandemic, how many deaths will it take for you to change your mind? How many months of a suppressed economy are you willing to live with, all because infection levels are STILL too high to reopen safely, due to partisan disputes over mask wearing and social distancing fueled by the president?
Because frankly, we could’ve been back to a new normal months ago, if Trump had listened to the experts at the CDC, WHO and NIH and designed one. THAT was his job, to design and construct a new covid-ready normal and help us get there. He Failed. Miserably.
I am personally sickened by Trump’s absolute ineptitude in managing the crisis and his lack of even basic compassion at the resultant loss of life. Every other country in the world has done better than the USA at things that we are supposed to be among the best at: healthcare and crisis management.
Every American should be ashamed of where we find ourselves now, as the rest of the world is deciding between laughing at our President or crying for the American people.
