Prosthetic thesis project: Student develops 3D-printed hand for just $15

Just goes to show how much we get ripped off for anything remotely medical. It’s almost as if medical businesses believe that we NEED medicine, therefore we’ll pay for it no matter what it costs. Which is highly fucked because, the Hippocratic Oath pretty much ignores anything to do with payment. The NEED for medicine should outweigh your ability to pay. If you need treatment to be healthy, you should get it. No one should be denied the best medical care available simply because they cannot pay for it. THAT is economic discrimination, depriving the poor of their right to life and the pursuit of happiness…it’s pretty hard to ‘pursue happiness’ when you feel like shit because you are sick and cannot afford the medicine to get well….or when you are an amputee and cannot afford a prosthetic that is more useful than not having one at all.

Santa and the ‘Shrooms: The real story behind the “design” of Christmas

European Father Christmas isn’t the only inspiration for our Santa Claus…shroomin’ shamans from Siberia (and Alaska) seem to have brought the whole thing together for us here in the Americas.

“And like so many other fantastical tales, it all originated with some really intense ‘shrooms. On the night of the winter solstice, a Koryak shaman would gather several hallucinogenic mushrooms called amanita muscaria, or fly agaric in English, and them to launch himself into a spiritual journey to the tree of life (a large pine), which lived by the North Star and held the answer to all the village’s problems from the previous year.”
