Seriously. What the fuck are we teaching kids in school if they aren’t learning about the most important events in the twentieth century? Do these recently born Americans know there were two world wars? Did they learn about Hitler and his xenophobic crimes in the name of making Germany great again? Because it sure looks like Hitler’s Germany is trying to be born again in America, from the disinformation right down to the concentration camps for ‘illegal’ humans.
We are failing to educate our future leaders, and in doing so we are pushing America towards failure. Conservatives like to claim that America is exceptional, but to be exceptional implies that we are the better than the average, and when it comes to education, only a handful of us get a truly exceptional education. We fail to educate the majority of our population, and in comparison to much of the modernized world, we are FAILING. But not because we can’t do it. We CAN if we choose to, but we choose otherwise. Racism, religion, discrimination and greed stand in our way, and we choose to promote ignorance to keep things as they are, rather than knowledge to embrace positive, intelligent change.
America is failing because we are afraid to succeed. Success requires that we act today with the hope of doing better in the future, not the fear of doing worse than in the past. ~jg
