Why even the strongest Republican efforts can’t defeat the welfare state

You know…it pisses me the fuck off when they talk about “the welfare state” and the first thing they discuss is Social Security. Social Security is NOT a welfare program. You pay into it, and you are supposed to receive benefits based upon your payments. That is not WELFARE. That is an INSURANCE program. But the problem is that politicians, not the regulated insurance industry, are running it. As a result, there is NO regulation, and we get screwed. Now, I’m not a big fan of insurance companies, but if they ran Social Security the way the government does, they would go out of business.
Maybe the government shouldn’t be running Social Security at all?

Bill Gates And Billionaire Buddies Invest $1 Billion In Clean Energy Fund To Fight Climate Change

Because Climate Change doesn’t exist, the richest people in the world are donating 1 BILLION DOLLARS to combat it’s effect. Even the biggest asshole should understand that the richest people simply DON’T spend their money unless there is a good reason. All I can say is that there MUST be a VERY good reason to get them to cough up a cool billion #ClimateChange.

Blue Rodeo has been one of my favorite bands forever. I met the band in the early 90s in little pub in Steamboat Colorado, where they were playing for like $2 cover I think. Try as I might, I couldn’t convince any of them to come to a party down the street that a friend was throwing. So I picked up a copy of ‘5 Days In July’ on my way out the door (on cassette i think…lol), and that was that. These guys have inspired me over and over, and I’m really glad I grabbed that tape!
