I’m such a moosh

So I watched this Jerry Garcia video: https://www.instagram.com/tv/B3gkg3zgc51/?igshid=1dqngbxrblp1w followed by this video about a baby elephant being rescued: https://www.instagram.com/tv/B3sUSD9p0X_/?igshid=1gdtyjmm3ivb6 and *spoiler alert* when the mom and her mini-phant were reunited, I immediately shed forth a waterfall of unstoppable tears. Jerry made me weepy, and the elephant love just pushed me right the fuck off the gooey feelz cliff.

Enjoy… but don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Just Thinking…by Jamie Gray 2019-10-26T21:23:18.000Z

I don’t agree with fuel taxes, or carbon taxes. There are better ways to reduce usage…like make greener, carbon-neutral forms of energy cheap and readily available to the masses. Clean, green, renewable energy shouldn’t be a responsible choice that we’re willing to pay more for…it should be the cheapest most readily accessible form of energy to business and consumer alike.
In general, taxing energy is really stupid, and I would argue, unconstitutional. It’s stupid because nothing more directly limits productivity, increasing the cost of everything for everyone. In general, taxation should be about distribution of EXCESS and should never be levied on the poorest citizens. By taxing energy or carbon, you are taxing the production of goods and the resultant increase in the cost of goods and services is effectively a flat tax that affects the poorest citizens by the greatest margins, and is therefore economic discrimination and unconstitutional.
Instead, we should invest in research partnerships between universities and private business to rapidly and cost effectively develop and put green technology into operation. Businesses can benefit with free university research funded by government grants, in exchange for patent/profit limits on the resultant products and technologies. Many companies now spend billions in research…and energy. It could be a real win-win for everyone…and The Planet.

Is America over? Our time as a leader of the world done?
If America was a person, what would be our last words, our final confession…what would America say, before we slip into history as the greatest failed civilization since the Roman empire?
Or maybe I’m wrong. ~jg

Why are Republicans so afraid of Trump? So spineless, they won’t defend the Constitution or nearly any traditional GOP values, and instead defend this corrupt crudite and his attempt to de-legitimize the very cornerstones of our democracy. I bet the number of independent voters grows a bunch, and wise people will soon be ashamed to call themselves Republicans. ~jg

Memorial Day 2019

It’s important to remember the people who died in service to our nation on Memorial Day. How much moreso must we do everything possible to prevent more of our children from the same fate, heroic as it may be? Our celebration should include a yearly rededication to the promotion of peace, rather than military action for the sake of nationalism, religion, and worst of them all, profit. We must not take the path of imperialism, but rather the task of bringing compassion to those who desperately need help. If we want to end terrorism we must open the fist and provide a helping hand instead. Nothing kills hatred faster than kindness, and nothing breeds contempt like exploitation and suffering. Carrots, not sticks are the path to a just society.
I wish everyone warm reflections this Memorial Day, and rededicate myself to peace, kindness and unity.

This is not my America

This is not my America

In my America, all people are treated with respect, from wherever they arrive. We welcome new ideas and new idea thinkers from new places and perspectives, and we do not shut our doors in the faces of those who come here seeking help, looking only to find a better life. If they make it to our door and knock, we invite them in.
In my America, everyone has a voice and the freedom to decide how their own lives should be lived. Your religion is up to you, and you are free to practice any religion you wish, or no religion at all. Our laws should ensure we treat each other with respect, and that we respect our planet and the rights of our great grandchildren. Our laws should compel us to accept the responsibility for our own actions, but not infringe upon our rights to make our own well educated decisions.
America is not a place to be guarded, but an ideal to be shared. If we expend our efforts and money on improving people’s lives here and abroad, we shouldn’t need to spend so much on border walls to keep ‘them’ out, and weapons of war for forcing ‘them’ to do what we want them to do…at gunpoint.
THIS America is heading in the wrong directions. It didn’t start with Trump, but it’s never been more obvious. Will we figure it out in time, or will it be too late to save us from our own destruction…from the destruction of the REAL America? Because THIS America is not real, and this is not MY America. ~jg
