Private prison contractor’s $1B no-bid deal to run immigration jails guarantees 100% occupancy payouts

This shit pisses me off…It’s not just that this is NO BID..that’s right, read that $1BILLION contract, NO COMPETITION. OK that’s bad but that’s not all…

Notice that the Federal Government is paying them for 100% occupancy even if there’s no one locked up. So we’re paying for empty jails now? I guess that’s marginally better than paying by how many prisoners are actually in there…you know…because that incentivises prison lobbies to bribe congress and offer perks to judges who help keep them filled up. Either way…private prisons are the problem, not the solution to the cost of incarceration being too high. How about stop locking people up for addiction and/or wanting to get high? This should NOT be a crime…especially when you can get as high/addicted as you want on “government approved ” substance abuse…beer…wine…liquor…cigarettes…prescription drugs.

All that’s going on here is this: Large Corporations are bribing congress to keep their markets in place…Big Alcohol. Big Tobacco. Big Pharma. Big Cotton. Big Paper. Big Oil. None of these folks want these prisons empty any more than the Big Incarceration does. END THE DRUG WAR, Start SOLVING problems, rather than denying them.

I know I went off topic, because this article is specifically about an IMMIGRATION detention facility, owned and operated by one of the largest private corrections firms in the country. But the solution is similar…fixing immigration is not about building detention centers to hold illegals, as much as it’s about FIXING IMMIGRATION.

Somewhere in DC they’re saying, “Now hey wait, there’s no reason to go and do that…then we’d be wasting $1 BILLION taxpayer dollars on this here prison. We can’t do that…the American people will be PISSED if leave that place empty and waste all that money”.

Fuck you Congress. Fix Immigration NOW.

“Private prison titan Corrections Corporation of America has extensively diversified its holdings into the entire carceral-industrial sector: halfway houses, electronic monitoring, mental health — and family immigration detention, a growth industry where the human rights standards are rock-bottom and the payouts are guaranteed to jackpot.

CCA won a $1B no-bid federal contract to operate America’s “baby-jails” — the family immigration detention centers whose inmates include very small children and infants. The deal guarantees CCA full fees (based on 100% occupancy) even if the centers sit empty.” http://buff.ly/2b96Kbe Private prison contractor’s $1B no-bid deal to run immigration jails guarantees 100% occupancy payouts
