It’s true, and the doctors know it. Basically, for #opioids to work, they have to really fuck you up. You simply can’t function normally and kill the pain, which makes them great if you’re bedridden and in extreme pain, but on a day to day basis, all they really do is get you hooked to them. That’s right, #BigPharma is basically the corner drug pusher.
\nHere’s why…since opioids aren’t really effective at low levels, they are basically ineffective as prescribed…that means that from day one, they generally don’t work as well as you wish, so you have to take more than recommended to kill the pain right out of the gate. Then, because tolerance to opioids increases with use, you have to keep increasing the dosage for the same amount of relief. The escalation is practically built in. So are the profits for Big Pharma.
\n– They sell you painkillers that don’t work as well as you hope. Ka-ching!
\n– So then you call the doctor, he gives you a new script for stronger meds. Ka-Ching!
\n– You eat them a little faster than you should. Eventually, about twice as fast as you should, because once you start upping the dosage, time sort of gets “foggy” and the only thing that matters is killing the pain…so you end up taking meds when you hurt. Refill time. Ka-Ching!
\n– Sooner or later, after you’ve gotten as many refills as allowed (Ka-Ching! Ka-Ching!), the #DEA (or if you’re lucky, your doctor’s common sense earlier) cuts you off so you don’t end up addicted. If you’re still in pain, what then?
\n– Guess what? Thanks to huge demand created by this #BigPharma backed, get-you-hooked-then-dump-you plan, there’s a vibrant black market trafficking the same pills your doctor was giving you…maybe even stronger ones he didn’t want you to have because of their danger. They cost a little more, and insurance won’t cover it, but, don’t worry, Big Pharma still makes money selling them. Whoever illegally obtained them, SOMEONE had to buy them from a distributor at some point…Illegal-Ka-Ching!
\nHmm…Big Pharma profits from their illegally sold products…doesn’t that kinda make them complicit? <\/p>\n

Truth time: Opioids are the TRUE #GatewayDrugs.
